Steamed Chicken with Sweet Potatoes and String Beans

Steamed chicken always reminds me of chicken soup whenever I am sick. This might sound like something negative, but it isn’t. It’s actually a very fond¬†memory of mine since my mother used to cook chicken soup for me or any kind of meal with chicken to be precise in my time of need. It reminds me of her caring nature and the love a mother has for her child. I love chicken so much. And chicken breast tastes best when it is steamed. Weirdly enough, I enjoy this meal without any sauce or seasoning, except for a simple dash of salt and pepper, although I am a sauce maniac. I could drown myself in pools of different sauces and dressings, but not when it comes to this dish. Maybe a squeeze of lime or lemon juice would suffice. If you need a sauce, feel free to whip up any sauce of your choice which you think fits best. ūüôā

Now let’s get started with this healthy hearty dish of love…

Time: 25 minutes

Ingredients for 1 portion:

  • 1 chicken breast
  • 100 gr string beans
  • 150 gr sweat potato
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 lemon/lime


  • Electronic steamer
  • Chopping board
  • Kitchen knife
  • Peeler


Wash your chicken breast. ¬†Use dividers if they¬†were delivered with your steamer and divide your steam basket into 3 compartments, or if you have a multilevel steamer, just put each ingredient in it’s own steam basket and stack it up. Add your chicken breast to either a compartment of your divided basket, or to it’s own steam basket. Start steaming your chicken breast while preparing the rest. Set the timer to 15 minutes. Now peel your sweat potato and cut it up into dices¬†and¬†add your diced sweet lovin’ potatoes to a compartment or it’s own steam basket as soon as the timer goes off. Now keep steaming the chicken and start steaming the potatoes for another 5¬†minutes. Next and last ingredient is the string beans. Wash them and cut off about 0.5 cm of both ends, then cut them in half. When the alarm goes off add the string beans to another compartment or steam basket and steam all three ingredients together for another 5 minutes and you have your healthy hearty good meal! Don’t forget to add a dash of salt and pepper and a squeeze of lemon for freshness. Lecker smacker!
